Tree Transplanting

Our award-winning tree transplanting division, The Tree Movers, is the leader in tree transplanting in Australia and overseas.

Tree transplanting is the moving or relocation of trees. This can be done for
several reasons, such as landscaping, site constraints or to preserve trees that
would otherwise be removed.

The Tree Movers’ reputation in tree transplanting in Sydney and beyond has taken us to 7 countries on 3 different continents. We have been involved with more than 45,000 transplants worldwide, each varying between several hundred kilograms to several hundred tonnes in weight. Some of our past projects include Stadium Australia, San Diego Zoo; Disney Land – Hong Kong; Wynne Resorts, Las Vegas.

Tree transplanting is done for various reasons, including landscaping, site limits, or the preservation of trees that would otherwise be cut down. The Tree Doctor does it all for you.

The Tree Doctor offers transplanting service for both commercial and residential properties

One of our transplant consultants can examine the tree(s) on your property or the estate, determine whether or not the transplant is viable, and offer advice. Transplanting Evaluation

The Tree Doctor will need the following information to evaluate the best tree transplanting method for your property’s tree and whether or not it’s viable:

  • The type of tree
  • The diameter of the trunk
  • The tree’s condition – The depth and type of soil (clay, sand, loam, etc.)
  • Root plate area and depth must be kept to a minimum
  • Access to information such as breadth, height, and condition (sealed road, soft ground, etc.)
  • The length of time the tree will be relocated

Transplanting Procedure

Tree transplanting is as much of a science as it is an art, it takes meticulous planning and the combination of the correct machinery as well as an extensive knowledge in the upkeep and maintenance of a recently transplanted tree. During the transplanting process The Tree Doctor will ensure that the tree has an adequate number of roots retained so that once the tree is in its new location it has the best chance of survival. It’s not over once the tree is in its new location! Trees that are transplanted require a minimum of 12-24 months of maintenance to give it the best chance possible. Ask our team about the costing and implementation of a post-transplant maintenance program for more information.

Tree Spade

What is a Tree Spade? A tree spade is an ingenious machine used in providing tree transplanting services for palms and smaller trees. What size of tree can a Tree Spade move? There is nothing like finding new limits. It has been successfully used to move a 18m high palm tree. It has been used to move trees with trunks up to 45cm in diameter. Nearly all palms and trees with trunk diameters of 15-20 cm are generally ideal. What type of trees can a Tree Spade acommodate? Most palms and more than 90% of trees can be successfully transplanted, including wattles, gums and many Australian natives not previously movable. How does it work? There are six hardened steel spades in all. Three spades are fixed and the remaining three form two hinged gates, one of two blades and one of one blade. These are opened, and the truck reversed up to the tree. The gates are then closed around the tree, hydraulically locked. The blades are then pushed into the soil. When all six blades are fully inserted, the tree is then lifted out of the ground, and laid down, ready for travel.
